HONIARA: 7th March 2006 -- Don Bosco’s Rural Training Centre, Tetere, took ownership of its $ 264,000 (Solomon dollars) mechanics building and tools on 2nd March, 2006.  The mechanics building and tools were donations from the Japanese Government in its continuous support towards the development of Rural Training centres in Solomon Islands. Japanese Charge d’Affairs to Solomon Islands His Excellency Katsuhiko Kubo came to the Centre for the official handing-over ceremony.  Speaking to students, staff and guests at the centre, Mr. Kubo said that the Japanese Government was pleased to provide students and staff facilities to assist with their educational activites.   He said the new facilities would certainly improve the learning environment offered by the Centre.  “I am pleased that the assistance, which is a genuine expression of goodwill by the taxpayers of Japan, will assist the students in their education so they have important roles in the rebuilding of this nation”, Mr. Kubo sated.  Don Bosco’s RTC enrolls over 30 mechanical students between the age of 18 and 25.  “It is a great day for the rural training centre,” said Fr. Luciano Capelli, Rector of Don Bosco Solomons.  “This building will help train our youth for life and living.  Besides it sends a message that Japan believes in youth and the grassroots”, he said.
