Priest hoping Boy’s Home gets additonal aid

BACOLOD: 26th August 2009 -- Fr. Fernando Peralta, executive director of the Bacolod Boys Home, yesterday said he hopes the recent ratification by the Bacolod Sanggunian of a Memorandum of Agreement that allows the Salesians of Don Bosco to manage the home will draw more financial support from benefactors for its operations.
The home that was started by the late Fr. Gratian Murray is now in its 49th year of existence and cares for 50 boys, Peralta said. He, however, said he hopes that, with more help, they can increase its occupants to 100.
The Boy’s Home needs more support from benefactors for its repairs and operations, he said.
He assured that donations to the home will be managed properly and put to good use.
On the intervention of Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra, Executive Order No 37 Series of 2008 was issued for the creation of a Boy’s Home Governing Board composed of representatives of the Bacolod City government, University of St. La Salle, the Bacolod Boys Home Foundation Inc., and the Salesians of Don Bosco – South, Peralta said. The Governing Board looks into the policies and direction of the home, he said.
And, through the MOA ratified by  the Bacolod Sanggunian on August 4, Peralta said  the Salesians of Don Bosco South (Philippines) Province is tasked with managing, directing, implementing and approving appropriation of  funds, financial and administrative policies, programs over the staff and the boys who live at the home.
The ratification of the MOA fulfills the wish that Fr. Gratian  conveyed before his death, to Bacolod Boys Home Foundation directors  Hernan Lopez Jr., Lucy Ponce, Joey Ledesma and Bro. Gus Boquer, Peralta said.
