developments in the health care environment and has

addressed the needs of children, adolescents and

families. Examples of the Academy's responses to

national concerns over the years include: establishing

guidelines for the clinical evaluation of child sexual

abuse; helping to educate parents and families about

psychiatric disorders affecting children and

3. Child Research Net

Description: Based in japan, Child Research Net (CRN) is a

non-profit, interactive research institute dedicated to

facilitating world-wide research on children and youth.

It aims to gather and exchange information regarding

children and youth internationally, with a special

focus on Japan and Asia. By using the Internet, it is

hoped there will be more effective dialogue within the

academic community as well as an exchange of

interdisciplinary perspectives to enrich and expand the

scope of children's research. The site is divided into

a number of sections: The CRN Navigator provides links

to many sites regarding children. These include

educational institutes, government agencies, schools,

and databases. These international resources focus on

child and youth education and development from an

interdisciplinary perspective. The Library section

offers academic articles from Japanese journals, survey

data and demographic information on Japanese and Asian

children and families. The Laboratory is a virtual

research centre where Child Research Net will conduct

research in co-operation with researchers from other

organisations. CRN's Key Investigators are listed here,

as well as their contributions to CRN. The forum

section will hold discussions relating to children's

issues. The Information section will contain news from

CRN and announcements of conferences and events in

Japan and Asia. The site is available in japanese and

English.
