CEBU: DBTC PLANNING YEAR-LONG GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

CEBU CITY: 29th December '03 -- In January 2004 Don Bosco Technology Centre (Boys Town) Cebu City will begin its 50th anniversary celebrations, appropriately, as its Director Fr. Lan Guaio points out in his letter to all alumni and friends of DBTC, just as the Salesian Congregation also celebrates the 50th year of Dominic Savio's canonisation.  A long list of events is planned.
Bosconians, parents, present faculty and staff will open the year with a display of fashion design. Later in the month (January) there will be a Technical exhibition, but the true opening of the Jubilee year will commence in grand fashion on the 30th January with a Motorcade, a Mass to which the Salesian Bishops in the Philippines have been invited, a choral presentation of Bosconian songs composed by Salesians who have worked in the Philippines, and fireworks later in the evening.
On 1st February, all alumni not only from DBTC but from the other Salesian works that arose from this wonderful beginning in Cebu 50 years ago, are invited back and to contribute to the renovation of the chapel where so much of their religious formation took place.  It is called a Golden Jubilee Homecoming, sponsored by the '79 Silver Jubilee batch of alumni.
And so it goes on - Cadet drill displays, DB Triathlon, studies in Salesianity for staff and parents, the 'Bosdak' Awards for people who are outstanding in some sector of Church or society, and finally, to conclude the year's events, a National Olympics of all Salesian Schools from North and South.
No doubt 'austraLasia' will be able to report on many of these events as they occur.
