The New Provical of Philippine-South (FIS)

RMG- January 11, 2015. The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB, after consultations with his Council has appointed Fr Godofredo Atienza (57 years old) to be the 5th Provincial for the Philippine South from 2015-2021.

Fr. Godo, as he is familiarly known, was born in Manila on November 8, 1957. He entered the Canlubang Novitiate and professed on April 1, 1978. He was ordained on January 30, 1988 during the centennial of Don Bosco's death.

  The New Provicnial of Philippine-South

RMG-ROME: January 12, 2015 - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB,  after consultations with his Council has appointed Fr Godofredo Atienza SDB (57 years old) to be the 5th Provincial for the Philippine - South, for the years 2015-2021.

Fr. Godo, as he is familiarly known, hails from Manila and was born in November 8, 1957. He entered the Canlubang Novitiate and professed on April 1, 1978. He was ordained on January 30, 1988 during the centennial of Don Bosco's entrance to heaven.

When the Philippines divided into two provinces in 1992, he was assigned in Victorias, then he took up numerous responsibilities in Lawaan-Cebu and the Provincial House-Cebu. He served as Novice Master twice in 1999-2005 and 2008-2011. He had been Provincial Councillor for some time, and currently serving as the FIS Vice Provincial. At the same time, he is also back again in Victorias as its Rector.

The Philippine-South Province, dedicated to Mary Help of Christians, consists of 9 Brothers, 59 priests and 23 seminarians -a total of 102 confreres- who are serving in the 16 canonically-erected communities spread all over the Visayas and Mindanao regions of the Southern part of the Philippines. The two Salesian technical schools in Pakistan are also part of this province. The novitiate in Lawaan is international because it receives candidates from the Philippines and those from Hong Kong and Pakistan.

The Salesian Family of the Philippine-South has 5 FMA communities, 19 VDB members, 20 Damas members, 190 Salesian Cooperators, and an increasing numbers of ADMA members. The Salesian Cooperators are present in 8 centers of the FIS Province and 165 Salesian Cooperator aspirants.

After his meeting with the Rector Major, Fr Godofredo Atienza SDB will begin his ministry of animation and government of the FIS province on April 11, 2015.
