Differently-abled youth get early Christmas spirit from young Salesians in Manila

MAKATI: 2nd December 2007 --  Aspirants and pre-novices from Don Bosco Seminary in Canlubang, south of Manila, joined the Archdiocese of Manila Office for People with Disabilities Ministries (AMO-PDM) at their Christmas party for differently-abled poor young people: the deaf, mute, blind, crippled, autistic, or with Downs syndrome. The annual activity was held at the Don Bosco Technical Institute Makati grounds where the kids could enjoy an early spirit of Christmas by availing themselves of the services of different non-government organizations, foundations, cooperatives and schools. Working for marginalised youth and with the local Church are two important Salesian apostolic activities; for the aspirants and pre-novices concerned, young as they are, it was good to be exposed to the different situations of today's marginalised youth. The experience helped make them more aware and appreciative of the rich potentials of these youngsters.
In effect the aspirants and pre-novices acted as caregivers, assistants in health services, entertainers in the program, and even being their loving elder brothers for a day. The experience was not only fun-filled but also a heart-felt one.  They came away more fired up to serve the young, as they prepare themselves to be future brothers and priests for the youth of the Philippines.
