Good Governance Seminar

MANILA:  15th November 2009 --  'Good Governance – a theologico-pastoral symposium', was held at St. John Bosco Parish Church, Makati City on 4th November, 2009 from 8.30am to 4.00pm.  Present for the seminar were 800 participants – priests, seminarians, sisters and lay folk. The symposium was organized by the Don Bosco Centre of Studies, Paranaque City.
It hoped to contribute some theological reflection and possible pastoral solution to the situation of the day.
    >From the brochure:
“Our country is at present at new cross roads ... worldwide economic recession with loss of jobs, ongoing political turmoil heightened by the coming elections in 2010.   The climate of corruption has increased especially and the country is rated as the most corrupt in Asia – with a culture of dishonesty, loss of integrity and truthfulness, a crisis of morality and values in public, professional and private life.  Thus movements have been emerging to demand urgent reform and restoration of morality, moral values, moral standards in our society”

The symposium opened with a biblico-theological perspective of Servant-discipleship in the Gospel of Mark by Fr. Francis J. Moloney sdb, Provincial Superior of the Australian Province.  He is a biblical scholar who has authored several books among which is The Gospel of St. Mark. A commentary.
Fr. Albert Alejo sj shared a cultural anthropological perspective – The spirituality of shared integrity as governance.
The third speaker was Mayor Sonia Lorenzo, who through her advocacy of participative and good governance has been able to empower the people of San Isidro and improve the local economy of the town.
At the end of each session the audience had a chance to ask questions to the speakers.
