Don Bosco Canlubang hosted differently-abled children

CANLUBANG: 17 March 2010 -- Don Bosco College in Canlubang welcomed differently-abled children from schools from Laguna and Cavite areas for a day of fun called “Gabayan Day Camp”. Gabayan is the Filipino for "to guide". It was organized by GUIDE, Inc. (Guided and Unified Interaction for the Development of Children), a non-stock-non-profit organization set up in 1997 to help children with special needs including orphaned, abandoned and street children. They help children who are poor, or who may have autism, mental retardation, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, giftedness, physical disabilities, street life and behavior and those that are psychologically handicapped.
Some Salesians, student-volunteers from our college department and the aspirants from Don Bosco Prenovitiate served as care givers, marshals and service-receptionists for the participants. They were joined by other volunteers form neighboring colleges and universities.
Volunteers were ahead of everyone as early as 6:00 in the morning. The day started with the mass sponsored by the aspirants. A parade was organized to make the surrounding community aware of the importance of taking care and valuing people who are experiencing these special cases. Fun and games, arts and crafts followed. In the afternoon, a program capped the day with special performances from student-participants around 4:00 in the afternoon.
Mr. Michael Gerry Duwin A. Dela Zerna, President of GUIDE, Inc. thanked the parents, children, the volunteers and Don Bosco College for a successful and unforgettable experience.
