(Once again a lengthy interruption to the normal flow of items, this time due to pressure of work as we finally arrive at the time for bringing the new sdb.org 2.0 fully online. Within the next 48 hours you will receive precise notification of when and how to re-register for the new site).

Salesian Family in FIN celebrates its 'spirituality days'

BATULAO: 28th February 2010 -- The third Salesian Family Spirituality Weekend for the North Philippines Province has just concluded (26-28 February) at Batulao, south of Manila.  All told there were 58 participants from SDB, FMA, ASC, DBV, ADMA, FADS (Federacion Damas Salesianas), SCJ (the newly named 'Sisters of Charity of Jesus', formerly 'Miyazaki') and the FMA Past Pupils. The event this year was held with the participation of the General Councillor for the Missions, Fr Vaclav Klement, who also happens to be conducting the Extraordinary Visitation of the Province.
The FIN event mirrors, to some extent, the Spirituality Days that take place in Rome each year: the focus on the Rector Major's Strenna is paramount. The occasion serves to strengthen the capacity of the Salesian Family to work together in its common apostolate for the young. It is not the only event of its kind in the Province, as some local centres also bring the Salesian Family together. On the 14th February this year, the Salesian Family Fellowship Day was held at Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati, with Fr Wong, the Regional for EAO, as main celebrant.
One group experiencing a pleasing growth in the the Province is the ASC. Already in their report to the FIN Provincial Council at the end of 2009, the Salesian Cooperators were able to describe the extent of their activities. Apostolic activity includes catechetics in State schools and other teaching, facilitation of Bible study groups, facilitation of Basic Ecclesial Communities. ASC members are also reaching out to many migrant groups, through the migrant hostels.  For example in the Laguna area, undergoing heavy industrialisation, there is significant migration from other parts of the country.
Fr Klement makes it a point to meet with local ASC groups when possible. He was recently able to attend a meeting with the Mayapa Centre, near Canlubang where he met 7 new Cooperators who made their promise in March last year. There are others aspiring.  There are other centres too in the Province, with numbers of aspiring members.
