Pre-Easter gift: new crop of deacons

MANILA (Paranaque): 1 April 2013
--  FIN, Seminaryo ng Don Bosco, Paranaque City – Before the lull of the Holy Week set in, 12 deacons were ordained in a solemn ceremony on 23 March, in the National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians in Better Living Paranaque City by Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Auxiliary Bishop of Manila.

This ordination has become more relevant especially for the FIN province since it is the first time after recent years that it has had as many ordinands to the deaconate.

Our new deacons took up the Scriptural theme “Remain in my Love,” taken from John 15:9, to manifest their devotion to the Father who called each of them to follow the trail blazed by St. John Bosco.

Bishop Broderick, the ordaining prelate, was a former professor of our new deacons in the nearby Don Bosco Center of Studies and himself a former rector of the Seminaryo Don Bosco.

In his homily, he underlined the importance of the ministry to the order of the deaconate and inspired the deacons to welcome each opportunity to preach the Good News to the people.  Their many years in formation ought to have equipped them in effectively proclaiming the Gospel.

Also, Bishop Pabillo reminded the deacons of the significance of their duty to pray. He called for each one to be mindful of this apostolate which is one important apostolate of a deacon.

Fr. Eligio Cruz, SDB and Fr. Joseph Tran Hoa Hung, SDB provincial superiors of FIN and VIE provinces respectively, concelebrated along with the other confreres from various nearby provinces who came for the event.

The liturgy of the newly canonized Filipino martyr saint Pedro Calungsod was used for this event, since his feast this year would fall in the Easter Octave.
