Macau Part II:  Centenary Mass at Yuet Wah Millennium Hall

MACAU: 13th February 2006 -- Yesterday afternoon and evening the Salesian China centenary reached a high point with a Eucharistic celebration at Yuet Wah (literally, 'flower of Canton') College Millennium Hall.  The main theme for the celebration was the unity of the Salesian Family for the love of the young people of China, especially those who are poorest.  Seven of EAO's nine Salesian bishops were in attendance along with all of the provincials and more than 1500 members of the Salesian Family from Macau.
The Bishop of Macau, Right Rev. Joseph Lau presided at the Eucharist and the Rector Major preached the homily, speaking of Don Bosco's dreams about China.  He spole in English and Fr Savio Hon, provincial, translated into Cantonese.
Before the final blessing there was a moving 'renewal of promise' before the Rector Major, a commitment in love and with passion to accomplish Don Bosco's dream for China.  The commitment took the form of a renewal of profession for SDBs, the renewal of promise by members of the Salesian Family, while young people from Macau made their own special promise.
The Mass was followed by a centenary dinner with 1200 members of the Salesian Family.  VIPs included the Chief Administrator, Dr. Edward Ho, and the aforementioned bishop of Macau.  The Rector Major took the occasion to thank the Chief Administrator for the support given to the Salesians, especially the strong support of the government for Salesian educational work.  The entire day's events were also reported in the Macao Daily.
A little later we will report on the events of the 13th February, now drawing to a close in Macau and which include another centennial high point - at Instituto Salesiano, the first school established by the Salesians in 1906.
