Don Bosco Relic encounters origins of Salesian China Mission

MACAU: 6 April 2011 -- The arrival of Don Bosco's relic in Macau, the second important special administrative region of the People's Republic of China, was a momentous occasion for the Salesian communities there, recalling the origins of the Salesian presence a little over a century ago. The Relic (Casket version) has been at the Instituto Salesiano 'mother house' in Macau for the first days of April, until 6 April.
The 2nd April was Salesian Youth day in Macau and this gave thousands of young people a chance to encounter the Saint, pray and play. Later in the day after the kids had gone home, the faithful arrived to pray before the Relic and attend a special liturgy led by the Vice Provincial, Fr Andrew Fung, based around the theme of Don Bosco the spiritual director.
The climax of the Macau visit has been the procession with the Relic to the Macau Cathedral and the subsequent solemn Mass celebrated by Bishop Lai and concelebrated by Salesians and diocesan priests. Yuet Wah Salesian College band welcomed the procession at the entrance to the Cathedral. A number of key Government figures, Catholics, attended the event.
Earlier, in Hong Kong, over the last days of March, a moving testimony was offered by a Diocesan Deacon, Deacon Joseph Sung.  He had been a student at Aberdeen Technical School. He claimed that without the help of the Salesians he would have been simply one of the 'wolves' in the famous dream at 9 years of age. Now a changed person by his own admission, due to Salesian influence, he offers his own experience and stories to help change the lives of others.
The Relic will shortly be moving on to Taiwan.
