  SALESIAN FAMILY SPIRITUALITY DAY  (CIN)

HONG KONG: January 16, 2015 - It can be said that the CIN Province has begun the year 2015 with both feet on the ground. Just before the Salesian Family Spirituality Days in Rome, last Sunday- January 11th, the China Province had organized a one-day meeting and invited Cardinal Joseph Zen to guide them in the study of the 2015 Strenna of the Rector Major.

Cardinal Zen summarized the 2015 Strenna with 6 points:
1. Being with the young and hold dialogue with them.
2. Let them know that they are loved.
3. We are for the young especially the poorest and in the peripheries.
4. God expects that the young can find role-models and examples in us, whom they can rely on.
5. Make them feel accompanied, but do not carry them on our shoulders, give them Jesus and the Gospel values by which they can fully develop their potentials.
6. The young are a gift for us from God, they help us to understand and to be rooted in the Gospel, they teach us and they save us.

Around 120 participants joined the discussion on how to implement and live the Strenna in our daily lives. One sharing was how to face the negative elements in our lives positively, this can help resolve a lot of family problems, and we can start by doing this in the family or the community we live.

One participant gave up her job and took care of her grand-daughter. This was quite different from her way of raising up her daughter, it was indeed a very challenging task. We can say that this was the spirit of sacrifice similar to Mama Margaret.

A teacher from Macau shared that today the young are different from before, this require that we be more patient, so that we could approach them and help them. We have to accept them and tolerate their style of living so that we can influence them with truth and our values and teaching.

This spiritual day finished with the sacrament of confession, Eucharistic adoration and night prayers. Fr. Lanfranco Fedrigotti, Provincial of China Province reminded us of the last Strenna given by Don Bosco when he was still alive: “Love each other, love Jesus in the Eucharist and promote the devotion to Mary Help of Christians”. According to Fr. Provincial, this would be the best way to strengthen our spirituality at the beginning of the Bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco.
