Fruitful Year of Mercy – Hamamatsu, Japan!
Dear friends and confreres,
It was an exciting time with the Rector Major in Mongolia (first historical visit of the Rector Major to the Chinghis Khan Land), Myanmar (first historical visit to the Myanmar Vice-province) and two encounters in the provincial house of Seoul (KOR) and Bangkok (with the FIS delegation confreres)!
For past 12 months thanks to Pope Francis and with the whole Catholic community around the world we had a good chance to know deeper the name of God – Mercy! So many Holy Doors were open in 23 countries of our EAO region. In some places the door was even transported by boat from one to another island, like in Gizo diocese of Solomon Islands. This November 20 is the official closure of this Jubilee Year of Mercy and of the Holy Door also in Salesian parish of St Francis of Assisi, Hamamatsu - Japan, Yokohama diocese.
Thanks to the pioneer Fr. Evaristo Higa who lived in this city since 1993 and with him later on also other Salesians slowly a weak parish community became a model parish for the whole diocese. During this year all four Catholic language groups in Hamamatsu (Japanese, Brazilian, Spanish and Filipino) build up a unique environment of service and spirituality. Bishop of Yokohama brought all his clergy to experience the multicultural community family spirit and service, two important national meetings of migrant ministry were held in this parish.
Salesian community of Hamamatsu shares a variety of Mercy Jubilee Year fruits: for the pilgrims many confessions – conversions; for the missionaries of mercy it was a deep life-transformation with faith formation to guide the pilgrims. In the intense service to the 4000 pilgrims over last one year parish faithful grew in faith, responsibility, spirituality and community spirit. Among the parishioners was started a new inter-cultural group of spiritual formation and many other Catholic pilgrims coming during the Year of Mercy get inspired in their faith journey by this vibrant community!
I wish to all East Asia – Oceania (EAO) Salesian Family members a fruitful conclusion of the Mercy Jubilee Year!

Discovering the periphery of Pope Francis
実り豊かないつくしみの年 日本、浜松！
友人の皆さん、会員の皆さん、
総長と共にモンゴル（チンギスハンの地への総長による初めての歴史的訪問）と、ミャンマー（ミャンマー準管区への初めての歴史的訪問）を訪れ、ソウル（韓国）とバンコク（フィリピン南管区からの会員）で会員と会うのは、心躍る時間でした！
この12か月、教皇フランシスコと全世界のカトリック共同体のおかげで、私たちは神の名をより深く知る良い機会を与えられました──それはいつくしみという名です！ 私たちEAO地域の23か国で、実に多くの聖年の扉が開かれました。ソロモン諸島のギゾ教区のように、扉が島から島へと、船で運ばれたところさえありました。こんどの11月20日に、いつくしみの特別聖年は正式に閉幕し、日本の横浜教区にある、浜松のサレジオ会の、アシジの聖フランシスコ教会の聖年の扉も閉じられます。
1993年以来、浜松に暮らした開拓者、エヴァリスト比嘉神父のおかげで、また後に彼と共に働いたほかのサレジオ会員たちのおかげで、弱々しかった小教区共同体は、少しずつ教区全体のモデル小教区となるまでに成長しました。この一年、浜松のカトリックの4つの言語グループ（日本語、ポルトガル語‐ブラジル人、スペイン語、フィリピン語の人々）は、奉仕と霊性の類ない環境をつくり上げました。横浜の司教は、多文化の共同体の家族的精神を体験するために、教区の聖職者皆を浜松へ連れて来ました。移住者の司牧奉仕に関する2つの大きな全国会議も、この教会で開催されました。
浜松のサレジオ会共同体は、いつくしみの特別聖年のさまざまな実りを分かち合っています：多数の巡礼者の告解 ‐ 回心；いつくしみの宣教者たちにとっては、信仰の養成において巡礼者を導くことが、深く人生を変えるような経験になりました。この一年、4千人の巡礼者を迎え、熱心に奉仕したことで、教会の信徒は信仰、責任感、霊性、共同体の精神において成長しました。信徒たちの中に霊的養成のための新たな多文化のグループが発足し、いつくしみの聖年のあいだ訪れた多くのカトリック巡礼者は、この活力にあふれた共同体によって、信仰の歩みのためのインスピレーションを受けています！
東アジア‐オセアニア地域（EAO）のサレジオ家族の皆さんにとって、いつくしみの特別聖年の実りあふれる締めくくりとなりますように！
