WAN TOK BOSCO - the PNG Youth Camp
PORT MORSEBY - Papua New Guinea (FIN): September 5-7, 2014 – More than 200 youth from 5 Salesian institutions (Don Bosco Technological Institute in Boroko, Don Bosco Technical School in Gabutu, Caritas Technical Secondary School, VunaBosco Agro-Technical School in Kokopo, and Savio House Aspirantate) gathered in DBTI, Boroko for the Salesian Youth Camp. The theme for the event is “WAN TOK BOSCO CONNECTED - MOVING ON” The pamphlet distributed to each participant explains the theme. “Wan Tok” points to the “one youth spirituality” that animates the Salesian Youth Leaders in the journey towards the Bicentenary of Don Bosco’s Birth.
     In this camp, the Salesian Youth join together and connect with each other as Don Bosco’s youth. This means sharing the same culture and celebrating through youthful and formative activities, the gift of Don Bosco, as they move on in becoming good Christians and honest citizens.
     This Salesian Youth Camp aims at:
1] preparing meaningfully the Salesian Youth for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco’s Birth in 2015;
2] deepening the Salesian Youth Spirituality and promoting the Salesian Youth Movement; and
3] building rapport and fostering camaraderie among Salesian Youth Leaders .
     The highlights of the first day were: the Welcome Address of the Rector of DBTI, Fr. Louie Castañeda, the input on the Salesian Youth Spirituality and Animating the Salesian Youth Movement, the Talk Show about Bosconian Servant-Leadership (past pupils were invited to share their experiences), the Good Night Talk given by the Rector of DBTS, Fr. Roger Miranda, and the Taize Prayer (with simultaneous confessions).
     On the second day, a Salesian Cooperator gave a talk on “Don Bosco: Role Model for our Family.” Team building activities were organized and the youth participated very well. There were 10 groups, each one named after the Successors of Don Bosco. In the afternoon, Fr. Vaclav Klement gave a talk which was followed by group planning for the Bicentenary Celebration. The night was filled with laughter and music as the youth showcased their talents through dramas, songs, and dances. The Delegate of PNG-SI, Fr Peter Baquero, wrapped up the day’s event with the Good Night Talk.
     On the third day, the different contributions and plans of each group were presented. The 3-day event culminated with the Sunday Mass presided by Fr. Vaclav Klement, the Regional Councillor for East Asia-Oceania. This was followed by a motorcade around the city of Port Moresby.  Indeed, in the PNG-SI Delegation, as in any other place in the Salesian world, Don Bosco lives on… Hence, “DON BOSCO NAU NA OLTAIM” is the PNG-SI Delegation’s theme for celebration of Don Bosco’s 200th Birth Anniversary.
