Resources constantly on the increase

ROME: 25th September 2009 --  By now confreres and Salesian groups around the world are waking up to the fact that SDL collections can be added to easily enough, so materials are constantly coming in.  It is a something like a huge Salesian 'glory box', and if you can't find it anywhere else, chances are you'll find it there; if not today, then maybe tomorrow! It is actually getting to the point where if you can't find it in SDL then you probably can't find it anywhere!
We are hoping to be able to implement a system within the revamped sdb.org (we are still hopeful we can make this available on or about 18th December) which will display any new items added to SDL. This will then make it a simple matter of consulting an optional 'box' on the sdb.org homepage to discover what is new in SDL.
In the meantime here are a few items that have been entered recently:
    - Did you know that Don Bosco had written some music? You will find his Ah, si canti in suon di giubilo in the Don Bosco Collection, under 'A' in Titles.  We believe Lemoyne eventually produced the musical notation for the piece.
    - In the 'Resources' collection you will find some hymns to Don Bosco that go back to early times - for example those written by Cimatti and others. Search under 'Author' for Cimatti and you'll find all of them together. The Resources collection also contains a number of other new items.  As the 'Ongoing Formation' Bulletin comes in from Berkeley we add it there (click 'subjects' and look for Ongoing Formation) - not sure why the September and another edition are showing a 'PPT' image, but they'll open fine as PDFs, which they indeed are.  We have also just added the recent writings of Filipino moral theologian Fr Rene Lagaya, 6 items in all, added to this collection, searchable, under the author or even subjects - theology.
    - The Salesian Images collection is one of the fastest growing of the collections. Here we have taken a different tack to help people search.  Usually people have a general classification in mind like 'person' or 'object' or 'event'.  So you can search that way under 'subjects'. Recently someone wanted to know if we had Mario Bogani's paintings available.  We didn't at the time but now we have 40 of them!  Many are high resolution (Bogani's paintings adorn both the inside and outside of the Church at Colle Don Bosco).
    - Two of the language collections have recently received new materials.  The Memoirs of the Oratory are now available in Vietnamese (choose the PDF rather than the 'extracted text version', since only the PDF retains the correct Vietnamese characters); we have also received a range of materials from Holland - in Dutch obviously - for which we have created a Dutch collection.  They are materials used in training lay people in Salesian principles, Preventive System and Assistance.

And one final comment.  If you wish to see the Rua letters collection and are asked for a username password let me know and I'll give those to you (or use the one you already use for the reserved [sdb] collection).

We are getting requests for a Novena to Don Rua.  Does anyone know of such?  If you already have one could you forward it to us please and we will make it available to others.
