Salesian Spirituality Day '08, Korea

SEOU: 30th September 2008 -- For the past 10 years the province of Korea has been holding its annual Salesian Spirituality Day soon after the Autumn Harvest Moon Festival, a five day holiday of thanksgiving in Korea.  It is a time when all the members of the Salesian Family gather together to express their own thanks for birth into such a rich heritage. It is one of the events that pulls the various branches of the family together. This year it was the Salesian Cooperators' turn to plan and run the event which took place at the newly built provincial house in the middle of Seoul. This year's topic was, you might have guessed, 'Let us educate with the heart of Don Bosco'.
The Salesian Sisters prepared a beautiful visual presentation with live-acting to prayerfully demonstrate the spirit of Don Bosco through a Liturgy of the Word.  Fr Stefano Nam, newly-appointed provincial, gave the opening address on the place of the heart in Don Bosco's education. This was followed by a lively panel discussion guided by a Salesian Sister. Members of the panel consisted of a Volunteer of Don Bosco, a Caritas Sister and two Cooperators. After the discussion all three hundred participants were given a box lunch and welcome rest for a weary mind.  This led into an afternoon of recreation and folk dancing. The Salesian novices put on a play on the life of St. Paul.  Past and Present Pupils combined talents to give a good stage show of music and singing and the Salesian seminarians succeeded in getting everyone limbered up for the folk dancing to follow.  The Mass was the grand finale with drums and bass guitar to accompany the singing.
All in all a very positive experience of family. A suggestion was taken up and passed that every year two spirituality days be held; one in the south in the spring and the other in the north in the autumn. That way more of the Family can participate.
