Christ the King Procession in the Western District

HONG KONG. Every year during the Christ the King feast day, the St. Anthony Parish organizes the “Jesus loves Western District” parade to spread the Gospel, bring joy and peace and bless the district through a benediction on the street.

Pictures taken during the event: the Lion Dance Troupe leads the procession, followed by the Blessed Sacrament. The procession ended with a youthful presentation of songs and dances. The junior instructor who acted as Don Bosco can be seen in the bottom picture.

  Jesus Loves Western District Parade

HONG KONG: November 23, 2014 –Every year during the Christ the King feast day, St. Anthony Parish in Hong Kong organizes “Jesus loves Western District” parade to spread the Gospel, bring joy and peace and bless the district through a benediction on the street.

This year, Auxiliary Bishop Michael Yeung was invited to celebrate this important yearly event. After the thanksgiving mass, all the faithful joined the parade and escorted Jesus in the Eucharist to visit the people living in Western District. The parade was lead by the Chinese traditional Lion Dance team. This was performed by the young who are the primary concern of Don Bosco. Also, many children and youth joined the parade and distributed leaflets to the people on the streets, inviting them to join the event. The event was held on a street closed to the traffic. There were different booth activities managed by different sodalities of the parish.

The purpose of the parade was to send the blessing of Jesus to those we meet on the street. Lion Dance performance was a very good point of attraction for Hong Kong people who like this tradition a lot -as this represents goodness, happiness and celebration. At the end of Lion Dance performance, a banner of “God bless you” in Chinese was shown. This was a way to blend the local culture and the Church with a sense of familiarity.

Many children and youth became Jesus’ ambassadors, as they performed singing and dance. This lively and joyful atmosphere represented our life in the church, hoping that all the people on the street could experience the same. There was a young boy who acted as Don Bosco in the performance. He joined the Sunday school when he was 3 years old. Now, he is a university student and has become a junior instructor for the Sunday school. This is how Salesian charism works on youth and in the parish.
