Turin, Italy, 28 December -- Fr. Peter Zago, SDB (former provincial of FIS - Cebu province, 1992-1998) passed suddenly (heart attack) away in Perosa Argentina (Torino - Italy) yesterday night (December 28) in the house of his sister. The funeral will be held probably tomorrow or on Sunday (Dec 30 or Dec 31).

    Don Piero Zago è tornato alla casa del Padre

     

    UN ORATORIO IN PARADISO

     

    “Don Zago non riposerà neppure in Paradiso. Anche là sarà occupato a mettere in piedi un nuovo oratorio, un nuovo centro di formazione professionale per i poveri. Lui è un modello per tutti noi!” Con queste parole il vescovo di Gizo, Isole Solomon, monsignor Luciano Capelli ha ricordato don Piero Zago il 29 dicembre 2017, apprendendo la notizia del suo ritorno alla casa del Padre. Un riferimento dato durante l’omelia della messa funebre presieduta da don Vaclav Klement, Consigliere Generale per le Missioni Salesiane Don Bosco della Regione Asia Est Oceania, e concelebrata da diversi confratelli e sacerdoti della nostra diocesi il 2 gennaio scorso, nella chiesa di San Genesio a Perosa Argentina. Gremita di fedeli commossi, molti dei quali hanno dato toccanti testimonianze personali dell’incontro con don Piero.

    Una lunga vita spesa per far conoscere il vangelo e l’amore di Gesù, ad iniziare dalla prima missione a Cebu, nelle Filippine, per poi essere inviato a Tondo (area slum di Manila) e ritornare a Cebu fino al 1990, da dove raggiunge Papua Nuova Guinea e fonda a Vunabosco la scuola tecnica. Nel periodo 1992-1997 è Primo ispettore della nuova provincia con 3 Paesi (Cebu, Timor Leste, Indonesia). Dal 1998 al 2016 svolge la sua missione in Pakistan, prima Quetta e successivamente a Lahore. Trascorre il 2016 e il 2017 in Italia, ma chiedendo insistentemente di poter ripartire per la missione. E, ottenuto finalmente il permesso, si stava preparando a ritornare nelle Filippine il prossimo febbraio.

    Don Vaclav ha ricordato che ai presenti alla messa erano uniti in preghiera molte persone lontane, confratelli salesiani, suore Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, ex allievi e salesiani cooperatori. Tutti uniti nel rendere grazie a Dio per il grande modello di missione salesiano rappresentato da don Piero, che ha espresso la sua disponibilità e il suo zelo in tante parti del mondo nel promuovere ed accompagnare le vocazioni, nella dinamica passione educativa al servizio dei giovani e nell’instancabile impegno verso i poveri, coniugando pienamente i verbi missionari che Gesù stesso ci ha dato: andare, ammaestrare, battezzare, insegnare….
