Don Bosco Simbu Technical College

By Literacy Club 2018

Kumgi, PNG, 25 March 2018 -- March 19th marks a very significant and joyous event in the life and history of Don Bosco Simbu Technical College (DBSTC). The feast of St. Joseph the Patron Saint of our College is celebrated on this day annually. As promised in the Old Testament, the Messiah will be from the blood line of King David, the infallible Word of God was fulfilled when Joseph became the father of Jesus.

As the day was approaching, preparation for the celebrations was well planned out by different sodalities. The day commenced with the Eucharistic celebration in morning. On this auspicious day, the community of DBSTC was blessed to have with us our Provincial Economer, Fr. Roger Miranda who delivered a very inspiring and challenging homily in the most comprehensive fashion.

During the homily, Fr. Roger pointed out one of the similarities between St. Joseph and Don Bosco’s lives. The way through which God spoke to Don Bosco about his calling and mission in life and that of St. Joseph was very similar – through “dreams”. God’s plans upon their lives were revealed to them through dreams. However, one of the challenges was “complete obedience” to God’s calling upon their lives. We as children of God, we must have a willing heart and learn to cultivate in our lives the heart of complete obedience to the word of God. A wonderful homily delivered eloquently.

At the end of the homily, we had the induction of the newly elected Students Representative Council (SRC) executives, the class captains and vice captains of respective classes, the presidents of the different sodalities and the cultural groups that exist within the college. At he end of Mass, the first years of 2017 were honored with their certificates for best in attendance, conduct and Religious Education.

The Eucharist ended on a very significant note with the blessing of the new vehicle purchased for the College- a brand new Nissan Patrol. Another blessing to the College as it grows on in educating and evangelizing the youths from all over Papua New Guinea. As all these activities faded away slowly, this paved the way for another thrilling program to surface - Sports.

Organized by the Savio and Vicuna sodality, “sports” was spelled next on the program. An activity very well planned and executed in the true spirit and style of Don Bosco - run, jump and play but do not sin. Students from different classes turned out in their respective trades’ colors. The different colors greatly complement the beauty of the college and making it even more beautiful on such a fine weather. The whole thing gained its momentum as the students were assembled to receive further instructions about the program and the draws. The sough of adrenaline was bustling through their blood vessels as the first games began in the respective codes. The players received an overwhelming support and cheers from their friends who were cheering. Both students and teachers were playing the whole day.

Everyone really had fun playing, however towards the end they were all really exhausted. What a day, what a celebration done in the true spirit and style of Don Bosco! It’s a day in DBSTC where you can literally see everyone enjoying a feast of joy and excitement. We wish everyday could be the same. However, all good things must come to an end, so do all these excitements. The program was concluded at around 4:00 pm and everyone went away thrilled, joyful and exhausted.
