Australia

This province comprising Australia, Fiji and Western Samoa was set up in 1958, although the Salesians first came to Australia in 1923 to work in the Kimberley Missions. Today there are 120 Salesians in19 communities, 16 in Australia, two in Samoa and one for novitiate and post-novitiate studies in Suva, Fiji. The apostolic activities of these communities covers schools and colleges, parishes, youth centres, retreat houses, holiday camps, assistance to migrants and work for marginalised youth in the larger cities. The province has always taken a great interest in the overseas missions both by sending personnel, and the activities of the Salesian Mission Office. The decline of vocations is a major concern, signalling an uncertain future for some works.
