(:nl:) Perhaps the one thing to note is the awkwardness of some of our English terminology in Salesian parlance in this area. It comes from a confusion between Italian and English - there was no confusion in Don Bosco's use of the term ''economo'' from the outset...though the role did have to develop, even for him. Unfortunately, in many instances the term was simply transliterated into English as '''economer'', a word that actually does not exist in any dictionary! We are left with ''Economer General'' and ''Provincial Economer'' as institutional terms written into our Constitutions and Regulations. Fortunately at local level there is an opportunity to adopt different terms - bursar, administrator, financial administrator, treasurer, according to local custom.
