Eight Salesian arrived in Japan in 1926 to begin the Salesian Mission. Today there are 133 confrere in 16 communities working in five schools, 17 parishes, eight youth centres and two for youth in difficulties. Although dedicated Christian personnel are difficult to obtain, the provinces has had some remarkable achievements over the years: For 30 years the Summer Bible Camps have been a great success and 20 Salesian vocations have come from these camps. In recent years a youth group known has the Don Bosco Volunteers have regularly given of their time and energies to assist overseas countries in need.
