Port Moresby, PNG, 24 May 2026 -- “Anchored with Mary, Our Hope” was the theme of the Feast of Mary Help of Christians celebration at Don Bosco Technological Institute, held on May 23, 2025. The celebration began with the Holy Mass at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, followed by a series of special activities.
The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Fr Anand Noronha, SDB, and concelebrated by Fr Ariel Macatangay, SDB, and Fr Sylvester Kuli, SDB. In his homily, Fr Anand emphasized the message, “Do whatever He tells you.” “Mary is telling us to do whatever Christ tells us to do,” he said. “Christ is calling us to be united, to love one another, and to be of service to each other.” He further noted that in a world filled with conflict and division, Mary leads us to Christ, helping us to share His love and peace with those around us.
Students from the Momase region led the Mass with beautiful hymns, entrance and offertory processions, and traditional chants that brought unity and reverence to the celebration. Radio Maria was present, livestreaming the Mass both on radio and Facebook.
Following the Mass, everyone gathered in the school gymnasium for the second part of the celebration, which featured singing and dancing contests. Students from each technology trade performed Marian hymns and contemporary dances, blending modern praise with traditional Papua New Guinean songs. One unique highlight was the rosary-making contest, in which each department crafted rosaries from recycled materials.
Children from the weekday classes at the campus Community Centre were special guests and delighted the audience with a joyful dance performance that evoked childlike wonder and enthusiasm.
As the event came to a close, the winners of the contests were announced. The Automotive Technology students took the top prize, impressing everyone with their creativity and spirit.
The celebration ended with a communal lunch provided by the school administration, accompanied by Marian hymns performed by the school band.
