Hong Kong, 20 May 2025 -- On Sunday afternoon, May 18, in celebration of the Month of Mary, Cheung Chau Salesian Retreat House held a solemn and joyful blessing ceremony for a Marian statue. Numerous Salesian family lay mission partners and devotees attended, expressing their heartfelt devotion and reverence to the Blessed Virgin Mary through prayer and song.
The Salesian Retreat House, established in 1957, has a long-standing heritage deeply connected with the mission of the Salesians of Don Bosco, whose aim has always been to preach the Gospel throughout China. Initially serving as a House of Studies for Salesian missionaries, the retreat house now continues its spiritual mission as a tranquil haven, offering retreats, spiritual guidance, and a serene space for prayer and reflection.
The celebration began with the prayerful recitation of the Holy Rosary, led devoutly by members of the Legion of Mary. Following this spiritual preparation, choirs from various communities offered uplifting hymns, creating an atmosphere filled with serenity, joy, and devotion.
Father Antonio Leung, Vice-Provincial of the China Province, presided over the blessing ceremony. In his inspiring homily, Fr. Antonio emphasized the profound Marian devotion exemplified by St. John Bosco. He highlighted, "For Don Bosco, Mary was not only a mother to whom he turned for help in moments of trouble but was also his lifelong teacher and guide. She taught him how to live out his daily life according to God's will. Mary conveys to each of us the powerful message: 'The Almighty has done great things for you.'"
Fr. Antonio further encouraged everyone present, reminding them that each person-young or elderly-is entrusted with a unique mission from God. He emphasized that even ordinary actions performed with genuine faith, such as serving others, singing, or simple acts of kindness, become extraordinary ways to glorify God and honour Mary.
Following Fr. Antonio's homily, participants joined together for the blessing of the newly established Marian grotto. Everyone prayerfully entrusted their personal lives, intentions, and future endeavours to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, invoking her maternal protection and guidance, and praying especially for peace, strength, and abundant grace in their lives and families.
The celebration concluded on a joyful and festive note, as participants shared ice cream together, enjoying fellowship and laughter in a beloved Salesian tradition. This delightful gathering further strengthened bonds among community members, underscoring the spirit of joy and unity inspired by Mary's maternal love.
