Port Moresby, PNG 17 April 2025 -- From 7-11 April, the Curriculum Division, VET Curriculum Branch of the Department of Education, saw over 100 participants in attendance — teachers and TVET instructors from different schools in Port Moresby — for the Workshop on Curriculum Writing and Assessment held at Don Bosco Technical School, Gabutu. With its theme, ‘Capacity Building for Trainers/Assessors Towards Effective Delivery for Quality Outcomes,’ the program aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills to develop and implement a competency-based curriculum in their respective trades.
The focus of the workshop was on curriculum writing and assessment and facilitators from the Department of Education provided valuable insights and guidance throughout the program.
During the workshop, participants took an active role by delivering presentations, showcasing their understanding of curriculum writing and assessment concepts. Their presentations demonstrated the practical application of the theories discussed and allowed for constructive feedback from peers and facilitators. This workshop not only focused on the theoretical aspects of curriculum writing but also included practical exercises where participants could apply what they had learned in real-time scenarios. Group activities were organized to foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas among participants. This hands-on approach allowed them to better understand the intricacies of curriculum development and assessment.
The facilitators emphasized the importance of adapting the curriculum to meet the evolving needs of the industry and the job market. They provided examples of successful curriculum models and shared best practices from various educational institutions. Participants were given opportunities to ask questions and seek clarification on complex topics, ensuring a thorough understanding of the subject matter.
At the end of the week, a closing ceremony was held to recognize the efforts and achievements of the participants, serving as a testament to their dedication and hard work. The event concluded with positive feedback from the participants, who expressed their gratitude for the valuable knowledge and skills they had acquired. “It has been an important week of learning and synergy,” commented Mr. Martin Dai, Principal, Don Bosco Technical School, Gabutu.
