Port Moresby, PNG 5 February 2025 -- The St Joseph’s Catholic Church in East Boroko, Port Moresby, was filled as hundreds of Catholic School educators gathered to celebrate the annual Archdiocese of Port Moresby Catholic Agency Schools Commissioning Mass on 24 January 2025.
Cardinal John Ribat MSC, Archbishop of Port Moresby, presided over the Eucharistic celebration, which six other priests concelebrated. The Cardinal congratulated the Catholic schools - St Charles Secondary School, Marianville Secondary School, St Joseph’s International Catholic College, and La Salle Secondary School - for achieving top results in the 2024 Grade 10 and Grade 12 national examinations. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers for their dedication and support in guiding their students to success.
Archbishop Ribat emphasized that just as Jesus chose his twelve disciples to carry out His mission, teachers are also called to continue Christ’s work on earth. He remarked, “Teaching, helping students, and touching their hearts will inspire them to move forward with great hope, enabling them to contribute positively to society, the Church, the nation, and their families.”
The choir from St Joseph’s International Catholic College created a prayerful and uplifting atmosphere throughout the Mass, while other schools led the processions.
The celebration concluded with group photos and a shared lunch, marking the start of another year of faith-filled commitment to education.
