Apia, Samoa, 14 December 2024 -- A historic and joyous milestone was celebrated in the Salesian mission of Samoa as Fr Anh Vu Nguyen SDB was ordained to the priesthood, becoming the first Vietnamese Salesian to be ordained in Samoa. The ordination Mass, a momentous occasion for the Salesian community, was held at St John Bosco Parish, Sinamoga, and presided over by Archbishop Mosese Vitolio Tui SDB. The celebration was graced by the presence of the Australia-Pacific Provincial Council, Salesians working in Samoa, and the wider parish community.
Fr Anh Vu's ordination is a testament to the growing diversity and missionary spirit of the Salesian Congregation in the region. In his homily, Archbishop Mosese drew inspiration from the words of Don Bosco, encouraging Fr Anh Vu to embrace his priestly mission with the spirit of “bread, work, and heaven.” This famous saying encapsulates Don Bosco’s vision for the Salesian mission: providing for the physical, educational, and spiritual needs of the young and the poor.
Following the solemn celebration of the Eucharist, a vibrant feast was held at the Don Bosco Alafua Technical Centre Hall. The gathering was a beautiful display of the Samoan culture’s warmth and hospitality, with the community coming together to honor and support the newly ordained priest. Fr. Anh Vu’s ordination reflects the fruits of the Salesian mission in Samoa, which continues to inspire and form young men and women for the service of God and His people. His journey also highlights the global reach and unity of the Salesian family, as cultures and nations come together in the spirit of Don Bosco’s charism.
Let us continue to pray for Fr Anh Vu as he begins his priestly ministry, and may his example inspire many more to answer God’s call with courage and generosity.
