Bangkok, Thailand, 4 November 2024 -- The Salesian Family School in Thailand participated in the Don Bosco 2024 Global Youth Film Festival and won 6 awards. Inspired by the festival's slogan ‘I have a dream: young people and climate change’, the films addressed youth commitment to environmental care.

The Commission on Social Communication of Thailand has publicized and encouraged the students from the schools of the Salesian Family of Thailand [Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA), Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (SIHM), The Daughters of the Queenship of Mary (DQM), The Sisters of the Queenship of Mary Immaculate (SQM)], to participate in the DBGYFF 2024. Students from 11 schools of the five institutes submitted 27 entries from 11 schools.

The results of the competition were that 7 short films from Thailand were selected to be screened out of 120 films from around the world. These received 6 awards:

1. JURY CHOICE AWARDS Best Animation Short Film

2. Best Screenplay

2-Minute Short Films: Nature heals the mind

2. 5-Minute Short Films: Dream?

3. 2-Minute Short Films: The beginning of everything

In addition, each school and religious institute of the Salesian Family organized a screening of the short films for its members and students. Although most of our schools could not screen the films on October 17-18, when the competition results were announced, due to the school holidays in Thailand, they were postponed to the start of the school year at the end of October 2024 instead. This attracted a lot of attention from teachers and students. At the same time, the students who produced the short films were proud that their films helped encourage their peers to be more aware of taking care of the planet, our common home.
