Suva, Fiji, 15 October 2024 -- The vibrant and dynamic youth gathering, "Viti-Bosco," was held from 4 to 6 October, bringing together young people for a weekend rich in faith, fellowship, and fun. With the theme, "Anchored in Hope: Pilgrims with Young People," the event set a reflective tone, guiding participants through a series of uplifting activities aimed at inspiring and strengthening their spirits. The gathering officially began on Friday evening with a heartfelt prayer centered on Creation. This moment of reflection laid the spiritual foundation for the weekend, helping the youth connect with their faith before engaging in the upcoming activities. Following a shared meal, participants were divided into four groups: Trust, Perseverance, Empowerment, and Companionship. Each group took part in orientation sessions that fostered bonding and the sharing of personal experiences.

The first night concluded with a peaceful Taizé service, reinforcing the theme of the gathering. Brother Stan Rossato gave an insightful goodnight talk, encouraging everyone to carry the spirit of hope in them.

Saturday morning started with an energizing Zumba session, refreshing everyone for the day ahead. This was followed by Holy Mass, celebrated by Fr. Tuia Afoa, where the youth gathered for worship and reflection.

The morning continued with fun games that strengthened friendships and brought joy to the participants. A key highlight of the day was an informative session led by a police officer, who addressed the critical issue of drug abuse. This engaging talk provided valuable insights, sparking discussions that equipped the youth with knowledge and awareness.

After a nourishing lunch, the games resumed, promoting teamwork and friendly competition. The afternoon included vocational sharing within the groups, giving participants the opportunity to explore different life paths and aspirations.

As the evening approached, the youth gathered to pray the Rosary, honoring Our Lady of the Rosary. Fr Tuia Afoa then delivered a meaningful goodnight talk, setting a reflective tone for the night. The day ended with each group performing creative presentations about the days of Creation, showcasing their talents and creativity. A vibrant social evening ensued, promoting friendship and laughter among the young participants.

The final day of Viti-Bosco began with the Eucharistic Adoration, allowing participants to reflect on their experiences and deepen their spiritual connection. This was followed by a Mass, celebrated by Fr Tuia Afoa and assisted by Deacon Peter Vu, offering a moment of unity and gratitude.

After Mass, the youth had the opportunity to hear from Fr Soane, a Marist priest, who gave a thought-provoking talk on drug use from the Moral Perspective of the Catholic Church, emphasizing its effects on the Dignity of the Human Person and society. His insights resonated deeply, highlighting the importance of making informed and responsible choices.

The gathering concluded with lunch and more games, celebrating the friendships made and the lessons learned throughout the weekend. As participants said their goodbyes, a strong sense of community and hope lingered, reminding everyone that they are truly "Anchored in Hope."

Viti-Bosco was not just an event, but a journey of faith, growth, and companionship that will leave a lasting impression on all who attended.
