Brunswick, (Melbourne) Australia, 24 May 2020 -- On 24 May, following the invitation of the Rector Major Fr Artime and also the decision of the Bishops of Australia, St Margaret Mary ‘s Brunswick Australia celebrated the Ascension of the Lord through the livestreaming Mass celebrated by Fr Anthony Nguyen, parish priest and rector of the Salesian community. And at the end of the Mass the representatives of young children, a young family and Salesian family, sister and brother, all entrusted us to Mary Help of Christians amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Even though the Australian bishops noted that the country “has certainly suffered because of the pandemic, but not as grievously as some other countries”, the entrustment of the country to Mary Help of Christians is a “prompt and prudent act”.
The Blessed Virgin, under the title of “Mary Help of Christians”, has been the official Patroness of Australia since 1844. In the last two months the church and the youth centre have been closed; the hostel is still opening and functioning well with the students staying home to study online… The community has daily mass and the parish also has the livestreaming mass everyday with ten people allowed to be present… We strongly pray and entrust ourselves to the love and protection of the Lord and of Mary Helps of Christians and of St John Bosco.
We hope ordinary life will be returned soon.
