Tigaraksa, Indonesia – 24 May 2025 -- In a deep spirit of family and heartfelt devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the SDB Novitiate Community in Tigaraksa, Indonesia, along with the Salesian Family—including the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Salesian Cooperators, and Aspirants to the Salesian Cooperators—joyfully celebrated the Solemnity of Mary Help of Christians, a major feast of the Congregation, on 24 May 2025.
Preparations for the feast began early in May, starting with a retreat for all members of the Salesian Family. This was followed by a friendly badminton tournament, which included Salesians, Cooperators, Aspirants, and staff members of the community. Each evening leading up to the feast, the community gathered for the novena and short Goodnight talks (sermonettes), nurturing faith and devotion in an atmosphere of shared prayer.
The celebration day itself began in a festive spirit. Songs dedicated to Mary are played in the morning to awaken the community, followed by a group morning exercise, community prayer, and meditation, fostering a spirit of gratitude and fraternity.
Although rain interrupted some of the midday preparations, particularly the outdoor decorations, prayers and perseverance prevailed, and the weather cleared just in time for final arrangements to be completed before the evening Mass.
The Eucharistic Celebration began at 6:00 PM, marked by simplicity, solemnity, and deep spiritual participation. During the Mass, the Salesian Cooperators renewed their promises, while the novices formally submitted their letters of request for First Profession—a moving and hopeful moment for all.
The Mass was attended by members of the SFD religious sisters, staff, and Salesian friends. At the conclusion of the liturgy, the hymn “Help of Christians” was sung with great fervor, followed by the symbolic release of a rosary-shaped balloon into the night sky, representing the prayers and intentions lifted to Mary.
The celebration continued with light-hearted entertainment, a quiz, and the awarding of tournament prizes, before concluding with a communal dinner and joyful dancing, expressing the vibrant joy of the Salesian community.
This entire series of events beautifully reflected the living spirituality of Don Bosco, where prayer, joy, and a spirit of fraternity are united in deep devotion to Mary Help of Christians.
May our Blessed Mother continue to protect and guide the Salesian Family in Tigaraksa and around the world, strengthening us to be true signs of hope for the young.
“Mary Help of Christians, pray for us!”
