ASC China Province elected new councillors for 2012-14

HONG KONG: 13 November 2011
-- On Sunday afternoon, 12 November, at Don Bosco Learning Centre (near SDB Provincial House, Hong Kong), more than 50 members and Delegates from 11 local ASC centres gathered together for the election of 2012-14 provincial councillors.
The Provincial Delegate-FMA Sr. Cecilia Tse kicked off the meeting with a prayer calling the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit and that also encourage the candidates to accept God’s view with joyfulness no matter what the outcome would be. The election was proceeded in two separate steps.  First, electing the provincial coordinator, each voting member (i.e. the local coordinator, vice coordinator, administrator, secretary and the local Delegate) selected 3 candidates.  Dr. Philip Yu(56), Ms. Teresa Lam(41) and Mr. Alex Wong(22) received the highest votes.  These are submitted to the SDB Provincial for nomination (one of the three) as the new provincial coordinator. The remainder will become councillors without further election. This has been a unique practice in China province for many years. Second, the voting members elected 4 remaining councillors for the next term. They included a member from the Centre of young members Mr. Ricky Chung(43), and Mrs. Canny Li(40), Ms. Oi Ling Keung(24), Mr. Tze Kwan Chan(16). Once the new provincial coordinator has been appointed, s/he will then nominate a vice provincial coordinator from the 6 councillors and the remaining incoming councillors will elect various offices among themselves (i.e. provincial administrator, provincial secretary, and the provincial councillors for formation, apostolic work, corp. secretary) before the installation at next AGM.

The Provincial Delegate-SDB Fr. Francis Hung celebrated the closing Mass with remarks that interestingly related the election outcome with the Gospel of the day and encouraged those elected members made good use of the “talents” to earn more regardless of how many talents each of them has received from the Lord.  Also, he thanked the outgoing councillors for their selfless contribution to the Association in the past three years.
