Salesian Brother Simon Srugi - 140th anniversary of birth

By Our Own Correspondent

Jerusalem, 20 December 2017 -- Fr. Gianni Caputa, professor emeritus of the Faculty of Theology of the UPS (Cremisan - Jerusalem), Italian missionary in the SDB Middle East Province (MOR) became in 2014 the Vice-postulator of the cause of Beatification of Venerable Br. Simaan Srugi. We are grateful for his passion to share this model of spirituality through his wonderful power point presentation (available on the Boscolink).

Probably in most of the EAO provinces Brother Srugi is the least known model of Salesian Brother holiness, since there are not many translations (even in English) about his life story and spiritual profile. The only available book and short ppt presentation you can download on the Boscolink (Resources) - "Venerable Simon Srugi Salesian of Nazareth" by Ernesto Forti, translated by Fr. Prospero Roero SDB.

In the recent Salesian History Publication 'Ricerche Storiche Salesiane' (vol 69, XXXVI n.2; July - December 2017) Fr. Giovanni Caputa published a brief (40 pages) historical - spiritual profile of Venerable Brother Simon Srugi. We hope to have soon the English translation, so that many more EAO Salesians can know this Salesian Brother from Nazareth.
