Cebu, The Philippines, 9 August 2024 --The aspiring leaders of DBYC embraced the challenge of participating in the leaders' camp entitled CAMP TAGUBTUB, which symbolizes our role in leading and guiding others as the heartbeat of the community. This camp aims to shape us into effective leaders and represents our leadership within the youth center.
The camp took place at The Don Bosco Retreat House in Mantalongon, Dalaguete, spanning an amazing 4-day event from August 1-4. The journey began with a lengthy session discussing leadership and how to enhance and develop leadership skills. It also included a study of the historical aspects of Don Bosco and other Patron Saints.
Points were awarded to each group for flawlessly completing the tasks and activities given, as well as meeting all the requirements as instructed. Each team was named after a Patron Saint and tasked with designing their flags, making their soap treasures, and creating an energetic team yell representing their specific Saint. Over the following days, the campers engaged in various activities and games.
As part of the daily routine, morning Rosary walks and evening Masses were regularly held, and teams were assigned different chores to perform efficiently and effectively.
A special outdoor physical activity named the 'Amazing Race' was also organized, highlighting one of the standout events held throughout the year. It involved completing missions at various stations, each requiring travel to different locations to accomplish strategic and challenging tasks.
As they continued their tasks, teams were required to vlog their entire journey, documenting their experiences along the way. The last mission of the race was located at Flower Garden, one of the famous attractions in Mantalongon, Dalaguete.
The Amazing Race activity concluded successfully with a joyous downpour of rain, as campers and coordinators walked back to the Retreat House through the streets, their faces aglow with genuine smiles and delightful laughter.
The night before the final day in Mantalongon, campers were asked to write heartfelt letters to each other. This simple yet profound activity created a deeply emotional and poignant atmosphere as everyone offered warm and genuine hugs while singing 'Hawak Kamay' by Yeng Constantino. The song represents unwavering support and reassurance, symbolizing both having someone’s hand to hold and God's guidance through life's struggles. It beautifully conveys how this steadfast companionship provides emotional strength and comfort to those with you.
On the same day, the election for core group and sodality president positions was conducted. This process aimed to select leaders who would guide and represent their respective groups effectively.
Before departing, Fr Vince Michael Sabal, SDB, DBYC-Lawaan Youth Director, led everyone on a hike to explore Osmeña Peak, Cebu's highest mountain. He encouraged campers to experience and cherish the natural beauty and tranquility that come from living in harmony with nature, enriched by love and reverence.
Camp Tagubtub concluded with the presentation of specific awards and certificates of appreciation to leaders and campers. Hera Mae Nebria was honored with the prestigious title of "Camper of the Year" for her outstanding contributions and exemplary performance.
