Amazon forest, perpetual profession of Viet missionary

By Our Own Correspondent

Yaupi, Ecuador, 13 July 2016 -- Four years after arrival to Ecuador, Vietnamese Salesian Missionary Cl. Peter VUONG made his perpetual profession amidst 'his people' in the Salesian community of YAUPI on July 13, 2017. About 100 young people, SDB and FMA communities and the parishioners witnessed his total dedication to God and the Young:

    "I pledge myself
    to devote all my strength to those to whom you will send me, especially to the poorest young people;
    to live in the Salesian Society in communion of spirit and action with my brothers
    and in this way to share in the life and mission of your Church.
    And so I make the vow for ever to live obedient, poor and chaste
    according the way of the Gospel set out in the Salesian Constitutions..."

Cl. Tran Hong Trieu Vuong, 36 years old, was a member of the 142nd missionary expedition (2012) and received the missionary cross from the Rector major in Basilica of MHC in Turin. After a initial Spanish language studies in Quito, dedicated his practical training to the Shuar youngster in the heart of Ecuador Amazon region - in the Mission Stations of Wasakentsa and Yaupi. Since last January 2016 Peter is a first year theology student in the international SDB theologate in Bogota-Colombia, together with other 6 Vietnamese missionaries who belong to the Andes region provinces of Ecuador and Peru.

Yaupi is amongst the most typical Amazon missionary outpost in Ecuador started 70 years ago. The Salesian community of 3 priests with many lay mission partners is entrusted with the mission of Shuar elementary schools, Parish with dozens of forest stations, Boarding for Primary and Secondary School Shuar students, Formation Center for Lay Ministers of Shuar ethnic group.

We pray that the witness of total dedication of our young missionaries in the Vicariates of Latin America will inspire many more young Salesians in the EAO region to follow perpetually professed Vietnamese missionary!
