K'Long, Vietnam, 14 February 2024 -- The Rector Major, Cardinal Angel Artime Fernandes, welcomed participants and invited them to spend these days of the Team Visit with an open heart and mind and in communion with each other. The Rector Major spoke of credible leadership, a vision that looks to the future, Salesian consecrated Identity, and the ability to face the challenges of the mission. He reminded the leaders of the emptiness in the life of the confreres, the need to look at inconsistencies, appreciate the Salesian Brother vocation, and share the mission with the laity, who are not merely employers but as equals. “You have the duty to care for the Salesian charism. Guided by the Spirit may each one be filled with passion to care for the young and the poor”, were the encouraging words of the Rector Major.
Earlier Fr Joseph Phuoc, East Asia Oceania Regional, presented the report of the region. He appreciated the vibrant multicultural provinces, the growth of the Salesian Family and the ability to reach out to support the provinces in need. He presented statics and commented on areas of concern.
Fr. Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, presented an analysis of those who left the Congregation. He stressed that the human dimension and not merely ‘formality’ is important. “Central to the Salesian charism, is the celebration of life, a life of faith and of the Sacraments”, he said.
At the good night, Fr Fidel Orendain, Provincial (FIS), concluded the day by recalling take-home points from the different provinces.
