FIN - Zepherin Vocation Camp 2018

By Fr. Donnie Duchin Duya, SDB

Batangas, the Philippines, 1 June 2018 -- The FIN Province organized a vocation camp for young people coming from various Don Bosco and non-Don Bosco settings from 29 May until June 1.

Dubbed as Zepherin camp, it aims to:

  1. To present to the Seekers Don Bosco and the Salesian Life and Mission;

  2. To inspire the Seekers to become Salesians of Don Bosco; and

  3. To guide the Seekers on a journey of discernment.

The participants are called 'Seekers,’ to signify that they are fundamentally on a search for the will of God for them.

On the first day of the camp, they were oriented to the ministries of the Salesians in the FIN Province: Youth Center (Tondo), TVET (DBTI-Makati), Printing Press (Don Bosco Press), and Street children center (Tuloy).

They had their noontime Mass at the St. John Bosco Parish in Makati, which is being proposed to be the National Shrine of Don Bosco in the country.

They wrapped up the first day of the camp at the Prenovitiate Formation House in Canlubang, experiencing for a night how to live like Salesian aspirants as they prayed the vespers and rosary with the aspirants and the Formation House personnel.

The succeeding days of the camp were spent in group dynamics. They also received some inputs on prayer and discernment, lectio divina, life of Don Bosco and his mission.

On the last night of the camp, the Seekers were asked to come up with their resolutions before the Eucharistic Lord exposed for adoration. Majority of them resolved to “pray a Hail Mary each day for their vocation,” “frequently go for confessions,” and “pray for their co-Seekers.”

The camp is named after Bl. Zepherin Namuncura, who is the patron of the Salesian aspirants.

The last stop of the Camp is this chapel atop the hill which bears the holy relics of Bl. Zepherin Namuncura.

This effort has been spearhead by the vocation promotion team of the FIN Province, led by Fr. Jason David.
