Nakorn Srithammarat, Thailand,12 June 2024 -- On 9 June 2024, St. Dominic Savio Church, Nakorn Srithammarat, celebrated its 50th anniversary of being a community of faith. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Bishop Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil, SDB.
Back in 1972, Fr. Peter Jelleci, SDB was assigned in Ron Phibun. He started the construction of St. Dominic Savio Church. The construction began on 16 January 1973. The foundation stone was laid down on 13 May 1973. The blessing of the new Church was on 29 December 1973, officiated by then Bishop Peter Carretto, SDB.
Fr. Peter Jellici arranged for a catechetical room with modern catechetical materials. This attracted many people to study catechism. Many people were baptized, which included the families of Mr. Ngoen Wingsuk, Mr. Lom Nuanchantr, and Mr. Serm Bunthanom.
When the mission started to be more developed, the Salesian Province sent another Salesian priest - Fr. Renzo Rossignolo - to be the assistant of Fr. Peter Jellici.
On 29 April 1993, due to health problems, Fr. Peter Jellici was transferred to Nazareth House in Banpong, Ratchaburi, in order to have some rest and receive health care. Fr. Renzo Rossignolo was then made parish priest of St. Dominic Savio Church until the present - 2024.
