By Mr. Thomas Aquinas Lee

Seoul, Korea, 27 May 2020 -- More than one month after the successful Korean Parliament election (15 April 2020 with the participation of 29 million of the 44 million registered voters), also the Korean Salesian Cooperators braved Covid19 restrictions and pushed ahead with the 6th Provincial Congress ASC in a simple but essential way on Sunday, 24 May 2020. In the large Chapel on the 7th floor of Seoul SDB provincial house with the capacity of 700 seats 40+ members were present, representing all 700 ASC of Korea Province.

Representing the 110 registered voters, were 40 Salesian Cooperators and a handful of SDB-FMA delegates, who elected 10 new members of the 12th Korea Provincial Council, with a new Provincial Coordinator Mr. Andrew PARK Man-sik (59) from the Suwon Nazareth House Center. Both provincial delegates - Fr. Mark YANG and Sr. Gertruda KIM continue their service to the Association of Salesian Cooperators.

Due to pandemic restrictions also the whole program was simplified to the essentials: the outgoing Provincial Coordinator with his Council shared the 3 year report on the State of the ASC province, thanking the outgoing Provincial council members, followed by elections and sharing of newly elected Provincial councilors with their first encounter. Their first official meeting will be held as usual on the second Saturday of the month (13 June). In the brief discussion following the report, some interesting questions were shared concerning the postponed EAO 10th Regional Congress and the provincial budget and finances.

Our new provincial coordinator Andrew Park has an experience as local coordinator in Suwon, Nazareth House Center and also at the province level was a member of the formation team that worked out an effective formation program during the previous 3 year period.

Although we closed this 6th Provincial Congress somehow early, in spite of the present difficulties we left with the joy which our Salesian vocation brings to us from within. Many Salesian Cooperators showed their true congratulations to the new Councillors and gave their heartfelt thanks to the outgoing leadership (Coordinator Mr. Ivo CHOI Seon-ho).

The complete list of the 12th Provincial Council:

  • Coordinator: PARK Andrew
  • Secretary-Planning: PARK Paschal
  • Formation: SHIN Laurentio
  • Communication: LEE Thomas Acquinas
  • Administration: YOON Agnes
  • Vocation: KIM Lupicino
  • Education: YOON Theofania
  • Apostolate: CHA Daniel
  • Economy: PARK Cecilia
  • Evangelization: BAEK Immanuela

We ask your prayers for the new Provincial Council that is starting their service in this challenging situation. Mary Help of Christians, Pray for us!
