Bangkok, Thailand, 4 February 2019 -- The Salesian Catechetical Committee, which is one of the sub-commissions of the Salesian Youth Ministry Commission, organised the first meeting for the year of representatives of catechists from each Salesian school in Thailand. It was held at the Salesian Provincial Centre in Bangkok on Monday 4 February 2019. Fr John Bosco Thepharat Pitisant SDB, the Provincial, delivered the opening speech which encouraged all catechists to be strengthened by love in proclaiming God’s love and imitating Don Bosco’s life. It was at this time that participants had an opportunity to evaluate their past catechetical activities. It was a good time to share and plan ahead for what we are going to do in terms of supporting the effective growth of the catechetical work in Salesian schools.

As Salesians, we are convinced that our Congregation began with a simple catechism lesson, hence the catechetical commitment is the fundamental characteristic in our Salesian mission (cf. C. 34). Each one of us is called to be evangelisers and educators of faith to young people through our lives. We are challenged to utilise the technological equipment available in order to proclaim the love of God to humankind (Cf. C. 6, C. 30). Hence all Salesians should place all their energies and emphasis on the Catechism and pastoral commitment.

The Catechetical Committee has attempted to promote and cooperate effectively the unity of the catechetical work which is following the same direction. Thank you to all representatives of school catechists for your initiatives and active collaboration.
