Ordination to the Priesthood in Parañaque

Congratulations Fr Donnie, our Correspondent!

By Cl. Juvelan Paul N. Samia, SDB

Parañaque, The Philippines, 14 May 2016 -- The Salesian Province of St. John Bosco – Philippines-North, together with the entire Salesian Family of the locality, rejoices and praises the Lord for the precious gift of priesthood received by Rev. Fr. Donnie Duchin Duya, SDB on May 14, 2016, Feast of St. Matthias, Apostle at the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Parañaque.

His Excellency, Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara, D.D. of the diocese of Pasig, from which Fr. Donnie originally comes from, celebrated the Holy Eucharist and performed the rite or ordination to the priesthood.

In his homily, Bishop Mylo told Fr. Donnie the three important P’s in his Salesian priestly vocation, namely: Paghirang (election), Pag-ibig (love), and Panalangin (prayer). The bishop reminded Fr. Donnie that he was “chosen” by God not because he is the best among others but because he is “loved” by God in a special way. He concluded his message by inviting Fr. Donnie to remain in God’s love by living a truly “prayerful” life.

“MY GRACE IS ENOUGH FOR YOU” from St. Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians (12:9) was chosen by Fr. Donnie as the motto for his presbyteral ordination.

Fr. Donnie, who hails from Bicutan, Taguig, is the son of Mr. Pio and Mrs. Luningning Duya. He made his first profession on May 6, 2008 at the Don Bosco Formation Center, Lawaan, Talisay City.

For two years, 2008-2010, he resided at the Don Bosco Sacred Heart Postnovitiate and took up philosophy in Don Bosco College, Canlubang, Calamba City.

As practical trainee, he was assigned in the Don Bosco Prenovitiate House, Canlubang, Calamba City from 2010-2012.

Finally, he resided at the Seminaryo ng Don Bosco and studied theology at the Don Bosco Center of Studies, Parañaque from 2012-2016.

Let us all accompany Fr. Donnie in our prayers as he claims his new identity and embarks on his new mission as a Salesian priest for the young and for all of God’s people!
