Sumba - Indonesia, 29 April 2024 -- In this day and age, it is not easy for a teacher to understand the character of students in the world of education. This is because each student has a different character. This also makes teachers have to think hard when dealing with things like that.

On 25-26 April 2024, Don Bosco Sumba Vocational High School attempted to answer this challenge by understanding their personalities through psychology. This was marked by the invitation of a psychology team from Tarumanegara University, Jakarta, to carry out psychological testing activities on each student, teacher and also the student's parents. The aim of this activity is to provide personality assessments and measure the interests and talents of students and teachers. The school also invited us Salesian Aspirants and Pre-novices to take part in this activity. The Aspirants and Pre-novices really enjoyed this activity, because for us this is a very important form of learning for us, especially in knowing ourselves. This is also very important because we always work side by side with young people and we also have to be able to understand their character. In the seminar activities that we participated in together with the teachers and parents, we explained in detail the things that are needed in the world of work, especially as a teacher, you must know and understand the character of each student. Then it also explains tips or ways to understand the learning style of each student and this is all a challenge for a teacher.

From this seminar activity, I reflected that being a teacher is not easy. Not only must you have knowledge, but as a teacher, you must also be able to understand and know the character of each student. A teacher must also be able to know himself as well as possible. This needs to be done so that teachers can carry out their duties and responsibilities well. Therefore, getting to know the character of each student is not an easy thing for a teacher to do. This requires an approach with children, especially in terms of teaching. A teacher really needs to know the various ways children learn, how to communicate with children, and also the need for reflection and evaluation. When a teacher can do all this, he can definitely become a teacher who is loved by students. The point of it all is to be a wise teacher who can love his children until they feel truly loved.
