Salesian world, 5 February 2022 -- There are 32 groups within the large Salesian Family of Don Bosco, and 5 of them are 'secular institutes'. The members of these 'Secular Institutes' by nature, with their 'reserve' of living their consecration to the Lord within the ordinary situation of human society, are called to not 'show off'' in the public and also in the media. Indeed their identity is 'to be the salt of the Earth' (Mt 5).
At present there are some 100 'CDB' institute members around the world and within our East Asia-Oceania Region two groups are growing - one around Manila in the Philippines (FIN) and other around Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam (VIE).
We are glad that the Filipino CDB members are trying by modern means to present their vocation. Recently they produced a 4 minute video clip, along with their official world-wide circulated vocation leaflet. Both materials are now available on the internet:
We, Volunteers with Don Bosco
We, like Christ, devote ourselves to a chaste, poor, and obedient love.
We profess vows so the world can behold the freedom of a donated life.
We witness a God who travels the ways of men.
We are not identified by any external signs.
We do not disclose publicly our membership in the Institute, that is, membership is “reserved”, to enable our actions to be more effective
We, as Volunteers with Don Bosco, do not live in community.
We are united by the bond of friendship and by a deep fraternal communion.
We come together for moments of formation and review.
We stay alert to the signs of the times and seek to respond creatively to the needs and appeals of those around us, especially to the newly impoverished.
A life that is concrete and energetic.
A life that is profoundly interior.
A life that is particularly attentive to the young.
A life that is joyful and committed. solidarity, testimony, honesty, justice and common good!
