Calamba City, the Philippines, 10 September 2016 -- Fr. Daniel Dennis Meim, SDB was finally put to rest in the Salesian cemetery in Don Bosco Canlubang.

The family, friends and confreres of Fr. Dennis, along with other members of the Salesian Family, gathered in the Diocesan Shrine of Mary Help of Christians to celebrate his passing on to eternal life. FIN Provincial Superior, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB presided over the requiem mass and interment.

The Eucharistic celebration was a fitting farewell and solemn tribute for Fr. Dennis. Fr. Sal Putzu, SDB, Rector of St Francis de Sales Community where Fr. Dennis belonged, gave the homily and short eulogy.

Among those that where offered to the altar during the offertory were the various printed materials, collaterals, magazines and books which Fr. Dennis worked with; and, the tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe which Fr. Dennis’ mother used to put over his body, praying for a miracle. Fr. Sal revealed that Fr. Dennis’ dedication to the mission and his Salesian life were fitting witnesses to the anthem their community and the Word & Life Publications staff has taken, “The Impossible Dream.”

After the post-communion prayer, siblings of Fr. Dennis shared to the assembly the beautiful memories they had with him. They recognized his giftedness, infectious joy and selfless giving—all expressions of his burning desire to serve God as a Salesian priest. His surviving brother remarked how Fr. Dennis loves his Salesian family. They also expressed their words of thanks to those who supported and loved their beloved brother.

A short procession to the cemetery followed the final blessing. The rosary was prayed before the final commendation, blessing of the niche, and the internment of Fr. Dennis’ urn.

Among those who were present was Msgr. Leo Drona, SDB, DD, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of San Pablo.

Due to cardiac arrest, Fr. Dennis passed on to eternity on Sunday evening, September 4 - the same day when St. Teresa of Kolkata was canonized in the Vatican - at 57 years old. For about six months he has fought a hard fight against cancer. He celebrates his 25th year of priesthood this year.
