Valdocco, 23 December 2023 -- On December 20, 2023, the Rector Major Rev. Angel Fernandez Artime, appointed Fr. Leong Teng Tok Domingos as the Provincial of the Salesian Province of China for the next years (2024-2030). Fr Leong Domingo will succeed Fr. Joseph Ng Chi Yuen, who has served the Province of China since 2018.

Fr. Leong Domingos was born in 1961 and joined the Salesian novitiate in 1981, making his first religious profession in 1982. In 1985, he did his theological studies in Newton, New Jersey (U.S.A), and was ordained to the priesthood in 1993. In 2001, he went to Italy for his Licentiate in Liturgy.

After his initial formation, he has served the Province in different leadership roles in the communities, focusing on forming young confreres and teaching in the Seminary of Hong Kong and others. He has been the Vice-Provincial and Delegate for Formation since 2018 until the present.

The dream of Don Bosco came true when the first Salesians came to China in 1916. Since then, the seeds of the Salesian charism have been spread out to different parts of Southeast Asia like Vietnam (currently a Province with 2 Delegations), the Philippines (2 Provinces (North and South) from which the Salesian reached to Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, and Malaysia). Many of them have received the gift of martyrdom (St. Luigi Versgilia and St. Callisto Caravario) or of being in the process of beatification (Fr. Braga and Fr. Andrew Majcen, Servants of God).

With such a glorious history of Salesian growth in (and from China) amidst the numerous trials and difficulties the Salesians have courageously passed through, we pray for Fr. Leong Domingos to lead the Salesians and members of the Salesian Family in China to continue the mission that Don Bosco has dreamed of.
