The 16th Provincial Chapter KOR

By Fr Samual Yoo, SDB

Seoul, Korea, 28 May 2019 -- The Korea Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco opened its 16th Provincial Chapter on 26 May, with 33 SDB delegates. One of the main points on the Chapter agenda is preparation for the 28th General Chapter: What kind of Salesians for the Youth of Today? At the same time, a large portion of time is dedicated to the ‘Reshaping of the Salesian mission in Korea’, a very urgent and issue in the context of rapidly changing Korean society.

The provincial chapter started with listening to the honest voices of Lay mission partners, Salesian Cooperator and Salesian Youth Movement members.

In this way the Salesian confreres may listen to ‘What kind of a Salesian they want’ and ‘how to share our mission with them”.

It is the first time to invite and listen to their experiences with Salesian confreres in the provincial chapter after many years. The confreres are deeply moved and inspired by their sincere hope for Salesians and ‘acute’ suggestions.

The Lay Mission Partners and the Young rightly understand who Salesians are, better than what we would guess. After listening to them, the confreres come to realize what they really need for a Salesian is not a successful manager in a secular way, rather, ‘a man of God’.
