The world, 21 May 2023 -- The 2023 annual Laudato Si' week with its theme ‘Hope for Earth - Hope for Humanity’ is already upon us (21-28 May). The 'Laudato Si' movement is animated by the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development (Prefect Card. Michael Czerny, Secretary Sr Alessandra Smerilli, FMA). Laudato Si’ Week began as a way to celebrate the first anniversary of Pope Francis’ papal encyclical letter, Laudato Si’: On Care For Our Common Home. Since then, the annual celebration has become a way for all Catholics to unite and rejoice in the progress we’ve made in bringing Laudato Si’ to life and to commit ourselves to further prayer and action for our common home.

The 2022 produced movie THE LETTER (understanding Pope Francis’ 'Laudato Si' encyclical letter, published in 2015) is proposed to all Catholics and people of goodwill to watch, reflect and act upon. Both Fr Isaac Johstrom, SDB and Sr Alessandra Smerilli, FMA are prominent in The Letter, together with 5 chosen global representatives from Senegal (seashore ecology crisis), Brazil (Amazon rain forest indigenous peoples), Hawaii (coral and sea warming) as well one youth eco-activist from India. The Letter, available on the YouTube channel, has been viewed over the past 7 months by more than 8.4 million viewers and offers emotional, ecological crisis-related data in the unfolding story of encounter with Pope Francis and the global representatives from all continents.

The film, which tells the story of four "social poets" affected first-hand by the climate crisis who travel to Rome to meet Pope Francis, will be the main resource guiding the week’s events, encouraging people to organise community screenings. Several global events will take place during the week, including an event dedicated to The Letter on Saturday 27 May, and the conclusion of the Week on Pentecost Sunday 28 May in Rome, Italy.

Also the 2023 Salesian Mission Day resources, with the theme 'Care of Creation is our Mission', are available for the SYM or Salesian Family events in many languages.

We are happy to see the animated and organised members of the Don Bosco Green Alliance (DBGA: https://www.donboscogreen.org), especially from the EAO region, with their regular action and awareness campaigns on the respective EAO DBGA platforms like: Facebook 'Laudato Si Don Bosco VN' or 'Don Bosco Makati TVET Center'. Happy and fruitful 'LAUDATO SI WEEK 2023!'
