East Boroko, Port Moresby, 10 June 2022 -- The Salesian family of the vice-province of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (PGS) celebrated the Salesian World Mission Day on 4 June 2022 at the Emmaus Conference Centre, Port Moresby.

After registration of participants, the day’s activities opened with a Taizé prayer led by the students of Don Bosco Technical School, followed by morning Lectio Divina by Fr. Pedro Sachitula, the Vice-Superior of PGS and Rector of DBTS.

A talk on the day’s theme, ‘Do all through love and nothing through constraint’ and how we communicate Christ through social media in a world which is growing rapidly in technology and modern peer pressure was given by Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb, Communications representative of the East Asia Oceania region.

“Let us try to be more attentive to the changes in our time and address them especially in the growth of technology and the influence of social media. It is up to us as individuals to bring Christ to others not in the big ways but in the little ways we can. We pray that the Holy Spirit guides us in this delicate task and teaches us how to communicate Christ who is love, to others”, Fr. Ambrose said.

“In the Rector Major’s message to all the members of the Salesian family around the world with the Strenna 2022 “Do all through love and nothing through constrain” is a message meant to indicate a clear horizon for our common journey in this world. The communication theme ‘Communicating Christ Today’ is thus very relevant”, he added.

Updates were given on missionary solidarity & the SMD Project 2021 for Africa. This year’s SMD Project will be for Bolivia. Each community and member of the Salesian family came up with their own way of raising funds for the project. The day ended with lunch and final blessing by Fr. Pedro.
