Salesians Help Flood Victims

By THA SC

Bangkok, Thailand, 24 November 2021 -- Even though the situation of the Covid-19 outbreak in Thailand is gradually decreasing, currently, the average number of new infections is about 7,000 people per day, a significant decrease from the previous record of about 10,000 affected per day, but the strong rain and flooding in the months of October and November has aggravated the situation in many areas of the country.

Faced with this situation, the Salesian Family of Thailand did not stay put, but tried to extend help to those people affected by flooding in the area where Salesian houses are located or in nearby areas.

In the middle of November 2021, the PDO section, led by Fr. Ekasit Talhakultorn, together with Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the alumni of the Salesian seminary, gave out 200 'food packages' to the families residing around the area of Conception Church, Samsen, Bangkok, and to the families living around Wat Ratchapha Tikaram Worawihan, Krungthon Bridge, Bangkok. Their living areas had been flooded; they had also been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, the confreres of Salesianum, Sampran - composed of brothers, novices and postulants, led by Fr. Nopphadol Joseph, together with the members of the formation house of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, distributed survival bags and food boxes to the villagers living around the area of St. Peter Church, Sampran. They were affected by the floods since they lived near the river. The water level had risen high due to the strong and continuous rain brought about by the typhoon.

The visit and the sharing of survival bags and food brought encouragement and rays of hope to the people.
